Our son Mac is the most social person I know. He lives for a celebration and never meets a stranger! If you know him, he’s talked about his beloved South Carolina Gamecocks to you at least once. He is obsessed! When we started planning his third birthday, we threw out lots of ideas – his favorite movies, other character themes, cute ideas from Pinterest. He didn’t want any of that – he wanted a Gamecock party.
I kind of laughed it off. His birthday is in July, so I couldn’t play a live football game on an outdoor movie screen or anything and I was hoping he’d come up with something better. I wasn’t sure how I was going to make it a cute party theme at all. But one day… I was doing laundry and noticed the alma mater “Forever to Thee” on his jersey. Then it hit me, we could use “Forever to Three”. And so we did. All of these ideas (except maybe the colors/alma mater) would be interchangeable to use for your favorite team!
With every party, I started with invitation design and inspo. Once I come up with an invitation, everything else falls into place. I do everything in house so while all of this looks like I’m ‘extra’ and spent a fortune, please keep in mind a lot of it is just me hitting ‘print’ and cutting stuff out! I am always available for custom parties and designs, just contact me on Etsy!
The beauty of a lot of the decor (like the Garden flag) for this party was that we are already huge Gamecock fans. We have tons of tailgating platters, decor, it’s almost obnoxious. But for once, I had a chance to use it all! For the entrance, we used Mac’s pick up truck and I tied on Gamecock balloons and made a ‘Tailgater’s Welcome” sign.
North Carolina summer season makes for weird party planning. It is SO hot so I try to either time it early in the day or later in the evening. My kids are night owls and a majority of the people at his parties are adults so we aim for evening/dinner parties. For this party, we chose tailgate dinner and had BBQ catered by our fave spot! SO worth it and such easy setup & clean up. Not to mention, so yummy.
I designed a logo based on the invitation to have printed cups, napkins and koozies made! I found the cutest gamecock food boats and plates, too. Cheap and easy. Disposable is key 🙂
Because our parties are mainly for adults, we always have a bar! I have koozies and cups printed up for keepsakes for the adults. Mac loves that we have a few from each party saved in the cabinet for him to use! We always have beer and this year I made a cranberry cocktail so it had the garnet color to be festive. So yummy!
With the bar, the adults have fun socializing and I always try to find a fun activity for the kids! This particular year I got so lucky. Because his party wasn’t during football season, I got the officially licensed Gamecock bounce house delivered to our house! Mac was SO excited and the kids had a blast.
I also had a pinata made on Etsy. Pinatas don’t last very long with our crowd, both the boys and the girls knock the candy out so fast! But it was cute while it lasted 🙂
I tied tags on sports bottles for the kids to keep as favors as well. Mac still uses his 2 years later at soccer! I thought the little tags were a cute touch.
We had the best time celebrating our gamecock fan’s third birthday and love celebrating him every single day! We are excited to plan his next party and really looking forward to celebrating his baby sister’s first birthday!
