Classic Train Birthday Party

July 7, 2020

As I’m prepping for our boy’s fifth birthday party in a few weeks, I realized I still hadn’t shared a few of his birthday parties. I have already shared his “Gamecock…Forever to Three” 3rd birthday party and his FORE golf 4th birthday party. So… I’m sharing his second birthday party.

I try to always let Mac pick his own theme, or at least plan it around something he truly loves at that particular stage of his life. At 2, Mac LOVED trains. I refused to have a Thomas the Train character themed party and went for a more classic vibe.

The invitations

As always, the party theme really starts for me with invitation design. Once I figure out an invitation design, everything else falls into place. I wanted primary colors and a classic gingham and monogram – I thought it turned out perfectly. Plus, a pun on “two choo” made me love it even more!

Party Activity

We moved into our current home about 3 weeks before our little boy turned 2. So the inside of the house was still kind of a disaster and in boxes but that’s okay, our parties tend to be all outdoors, even though it’s always one of the hottest days of the year!

As with all of our parties, we’ve learned the only way for the adults to enjoy time together is for the children to have a safe, fun activity they all love. When parents know our kids are safe, happy, and can still be watched from the patio while they have their fun in the yard, we can finally relax! So… it was crucial to find the perfect kid activity.

Classic Train Monogram Preppy Boy Birthday Party

For this party, I found a classic trackless train locally that was delivered to our home for the party along with a conductor who drove everyone around. The colors of the train even matched my party color scheme! The kids and adults all loved it! I highly suggest looking into this for your train themed party, we had a blast and it was a perfect photo op too! I have also seen train bounce houses in my searching.

Party Details

Once I had the invitations designed and trackless train reserved, I start on party extras. The details make a party so much more special, I love little personalized touches! With the logo on the invitation, I decided to have cups made, too. This has since become a little tradition among our friends so we will have to always continue to get cups for his parties!

I doodled on a little chalkboard at the party entrance at our driveway – this was a brand new house to us so it was important for people to know they were at the right house! Matching balloons are always my favorite way to welcome our guests.

I know I’m a crazy person but at our kid’s birthday parties, we have always felt the adults in his life are worth celebrating. After all, it takes a village. So, the adults are just as important as the kiddos to us. Since this party kind of acted as a housewarming party too, we had several kegs. I doodled a cute little chalk sign with “chugga chugga” on it to keep the train theme throughout the bar area and thought it was so cute!

I printed little cupcake toppers to match the invitation and used my round hole punch to pop them out. I normally just hot glue them onto toothpicks for a quick and easy personalized touch! If you are on a time crunch, I am adding some links to Amazon options that are simple and cute!!

These adorable train crayons would be the cutest party favor!

For the food table, I added a matching sign that said “chugga chugga chew chew” – I told you I love puns! I found the cutest railroad crossing plates that helped tie in the yellow to my red and blue tablescape. I think red, navy & yellow were the most adorable and sweet color combination for this party theme.

This party was way before I started blogging and I did not take pictures like I should have, we were too busy having so much fun! But I love sharing these little details! If you are interested in any of the designs I created, visit my Etsy shop and message me – I love to come up with custom designs for adorable party themes! I cannot believe we are celebrating our FIVE year old this month but I cannot wait to share the adorable theme he came up with this year!
